About UHMWPE Webbing

Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) webbing is woven from UHMWPE fibers, and has become a key material in industrial, military and civil applications due to its “lightweight and high-strength” characteristics.

Core Features

  • Excellent mechanical properties

The molecular weight is over one million (1,000,000-5,000,000), the tensile strength is more than 3.5GPa, the strength is 10 times of steel wire, and the modulus is 91-140N/tex.

  • Lightweight Advantage

Density of only 0.97-0.98g/cm³, can float in the water, significantly reducing the weight of equipment.

  • Environmentally tolerant

Acid and alkali resistant, UV resistant, applicable temperature range -140℃to 80℃.

  • Outstanding impact resistance

The breaking function is nearly twice as high as that of para-aramid, making it suitable for protective clothing.

♦ Production process

  • Fiber Preparation

Gel Spinning Technology: UHMWPE powder is dissolved by solvents, sprayed with filaments, and thermally stretched to form fibers, which are stretched more than a hundred times.

Dry/wet process: wet process is mainstream, need extractant to separate solvents; dry process by volatilizing solvents directly into silk.

  • Webbing Processing

Fibers are twisted and braided to form a high-density structure that balances flexibility and cut resistance.

  • Engineering

Used for heavy lifting (e.g., lifting of 6,000-ton components for the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge) and deep-sea mooring cables.

  • Safety and Protection

Bulletproof vests and stab-proof suits absorb kinetic energy of impact and outperform aramid; cut-resistant gloves popularize firefighting and medical scenarios.

  • Emerging Markets

Accelerated replacement of traditional materials in civilian applications such as mountaineering ropes, sailboat canvas, and medical sutures.
